How best to prepare for the oral rounds?
The CEEMC’s President (Dame Eleanor Sharpston KC) recorded this advice on mooting for us in 2019 during her time as an Advocate General of the Court of Justice. It still remains as valid as ever!
More recently, Eleanor returned to the CJEU as an advocate, in a significant case brought against Frontex (WS and Others v Frontex Case C-679/23 P). Her performance was a masterpiece of oral advocacy. Below are two video recordings made during the pleadings before the CJEU grand chamber. The first shows Eleanor’s pleadings. The second shows questions asked by the CJEU judges and Advocate General (AG Tamara Capeta, who has also been a judge at the CEEMC). There is lots to learn from these videos on how to structure and present a legal argument!
The judicial questions:
What is included in the fee?
The CEEMC fee varies each year, depending upon whether we are organizing accommodation for teams or asking teams to organize their own accommodation. We provide information on this each year when the fees and problem question are published. The CEEMC fee always include the team participation fee plus food/drink provided during the competition.
